Why Choose MetaPhorward Therapy?

At MetaPhorward Therapy, there is an emphasis on being able to be your genuine, authentic self. No one is here to force you to change. You're in the driver's seat during sessions, meaning you decide where to go and how fast you want to get there. Therapy is difficult, it's messy, and it's undeniably uncomfortable. Let's make it as approachable as possible, shall we?

MetaPhorward Therapy takes several major insurers and strives to help break down institutional barriers to care. You'll actually get a response when you try to reach out and even if MetaPhorward Therapy isn't the right fit for you, you'll be provided with alternative referrals.

Why the name MetaPhorward Therapy?
Well, therapy is all about metacognition - thinking about how we think. Most folks come to therapy to address and challenge unhelpful negative thoughts and we have to start by evaluating why and how we are thinking the way we are. Here's the thing though, therapy is often muddled up with clinical terms and is fully enmeshed in the medical model. That is partly a necessary evil so that insurance will pay for services, but that also makes therapy intimidating for a lot of people. In an attempt to offset that, it's nice for therapists and clients to create a shared language, usually around metaphors that clients can relate to and easily understand. And finally, we hope to always be moving forward. Not that change is linear (spoiler alert: it's not), but we can continue to move towards our goals and in the end, that's all that really matters.

So... Meta + Metaphor + Forward = MetaPhorward. Get it?
